Posting here as I thought the ladies in this section might know about this.
If you are already on anti-depressants during pregnancy/following the birth, does it reduce your chances of getting post natal depression? My Dr would like to put me on AD and I am wanting to find out as much as I can before doing so and before I TTC. |

Hi I was put on lexapro 18 months after having dd for pnd. I then went through 2 pregnancies while still on AD and yes it helped me a lot by reducing PND after birth to nothing more than the odd blues. Good luck

I had PND after my first baby so went on ADs shortly after having my second, and I didn't get PND.

I took ADs during 2 pregnancies to prevent PND spiraling out of control. Worked well. No effects on babies. There are some ADs that are safe to take during pregancy and breastfeeding.

Thank you all for your replies.
I was concerned that even with AD, the extra hormones from pregnancy/birth would make the depression worse and that the AD might not be enough. |
