Despite changing our outside bunnies litter each day, we seem to have a small fly issue which im afraid it may lead to a big maggots issue .
i purchased pets fly screen, apparently it cant be chewed or damaged by scratching and hubby was going to attach it to the outside of the hutch butttt im now concerned it may heat up inside the hutch. Do you think it will make the hutch hotter? Would love to hear what other outside bunny owners do to protect them from flies . BTW during hot weathers our bunnies do come inside and the hutch is under full time shelter against a wall. |

Our hutch is covered in fly screen - mainly to protect them from mosquitoes and myxomatosis, it doesn't seem to have made it hotter but it's a huge hutch with only one solid side so there's plenty of airflow.

Our solution for now is quite high maintenance... I change the newspaper underneath the cage several times a day if needed, and I also pick out the softer/mushier poops she does, because those are the ones that attract the flies (I've noticed flies show no interest in the average dry rabbit poop balls).
It seems to work, but as I said, it's high maintenance. I will have to look into pet fly screens too... |

Getting fly traps from Bunnings helped reduce flies around our bunny. Get one of the big ones though, because they fill up fast!

Hubby finally attached the pet flyscreen, it does look better & we havent noticed any flies inside the hutch today - but saying that we havent had 40c heats nor soft poo.
I only change the litter box once a day, I'll put some photos up tomorrow, - |
