Hi,
Just wondering ha anyone used the simple blood test to find out baby's gender? I read about it a while back (before I was pregnant) but I think it was only in the USA. Had a look online and they post them from USA to Australia, claims to be highly accurate from 7 weeks preg. Didn't find out gender with first 2 pregnancies but definitely want to know this time. Would also be handy if they can screen for DS and other conditions. I'm a bit older this time round : ) Thanks |

A simple maternal blood test to predict gender?
The mother has a different blood screen to the baby, I can't see how it works? |

Thanks for the link poss and soss.
It seems that there is a reason it isn't available for widespread use as yet and it is likely it may not be due to the inaccuracies and the risk of selective termination when used at 7 weeks. A possible minefield that I think we are best to do without unless it is used when there is a possibility of a genetic problem that is gender specific. |

mamababyowl you will need an amniocentesis if you want to screen for DS etc. They need to count chromosomes - you will however get a 100% guarantee on the foetus's sex.

You can now get recreational ultrasounds at 14 weeks to determine gender - that's what we did for this third one.
Otherwise, the only way to tell if baby has any chromosomal disorders is via Amnio or CVS and they are pretty invasive (needle through the belly + risks). |

At 7 weeks, you should see your GP. There you can get a referral for the NT screen to check your risk factor for genetic conditions. If your risk factors are high, you can choose to have CVS or an amnio. The amnio will give you a 100% accurate gender answer. I never used a blood test to find out my babies genders. 1 I didn't find out, the others had pretty clear 20 week scans. Either way, gender wasn't high on my list of priorities to know, it's 100% accurate in the delivery room.
