I bought it the week leading up to Christmas and it is still shrink wrapped. However has no use by date on it and not sure whether it would be safe to still eat?

WDYT?

Hi OP. Where did you get it from. It should have a use by date? I have one too that I purchased pre-Christmas and it is dated 24/01 which means I better get to it soon or waste $50. It would be good if the use by date was a month later when school went back but the label on mine says consume in 5 days after opening. Typical! I hate wasting food but bought it because I thought we would eat it over Christmas/NY.

Can you give it the ole sniff test? If there's no one with a compromised immune system/pregnant that will be eating it would you be right it if it smelt okay? I know deli ham turns my stomach the minute it's more than a couple of days old...

It's fine if it is cryovaced for non-pregnant peoples.

It can be frozen as well if you are not going to manage to eat it all in the magic 5 days. Which I tend to regard as a guideline and not a rule.

I would bake it first which will extend its shelf life. Have a lovely baked ham one night and then yummy tasting basted ham flavour served cold afterwards.

We have already been through two hams and I am going to bake the third for something different.

Can you ring the butcher and asked?

Also the other PP who's ham's use by date is soon - you can freeze it.
