Hi all, I am very excited, I secured a spot in a very sought after childcare centre:) It looks really good! So, I understand I will need to lable my son's clothing. How do people do it? Are there any ways to write the names on a tag with a perm marker - will it come off in the wash? Or are there any iron on lables I can pre=print?
I am not a sawing type, but neither do I want to ruin clothes with ugly black writings on it.. Also, a bit off topic, but this centre doesn't use cots, they use futons on the floor...I think it is so weird! I am happy for a futon for my son, who is 1 now, but isn't it dangerous for a tiny baby? I am also now worried that DS' curiousity might lead him to disturbing younger babies sleeping next to him.... |

I don't actually bother labling DD's clothes but she's at a small daycare so it's easy to find things again. Plus I never send her in anything I don't mind if it gets lost/painted on etc. You can get pre printed clothing lables on line pretty easily though, most just iron on
Our centre uses stretchers like things for the toddlers, the kids don't mind, they work out pretty quickly not to get up and bothre the others. The babies have cots. |

I use a fine tip permanent marker on my sons clothes tags. Sometimes I need to re do it but it lasts a good few washes. The futon thing should be fine, it's actually very cute watching them if you are there at nap time. My son had no issues with it at all. They obviously have someone in the room to watch at all times and I have never heard of any issues from it. Good luck, hope your wee one enjoys daycare.

I put DS's name or initials on the tag of his clothes with a marker. They haven't come off in the wash yet.

You can go to places like Spotlight and get iron on labelling tape.

Permanent marker, straight onto the clothing if possible. Tags can be easily removed (and yes, this has happened to me).

I've used a company called Oliver's Labels.
I hate the iron on ones, and the ones I got are stick on ones that you put on the care tags and can be removed later down the track if you want to sell or donate the clothes. From memory they are in Canada, but quite reasonable shipping costs. I couldn't find any Aussie company that does stick on clothing labels. |

I've always used a laundry marker on the tag & have never had a problem with it washing off. I just put a last name on, that way I can hand down to my younger kids & don't have to re-label.
At our day care the older kids (2+) sleep on mattresses on the floor but the babies sleep in cots. The older kids will all sleep at the same time after lunch but the babies will sleep in the cots according to their own routines. |

I order iron on labels from identikid and we use those. They have her name, my phone number and a picture of a cow on it. They match all her other labels on other things like her bag, lunch boxes, bottles etc. I was working on the theory that she can't read her name yet, but she will recognise the cow picture, to know that it is hers.
Our day care has cots in the 0-12 months, but from 12 months onwards, they use mattresses on the floor. Initially I thought they wouldn't have a hope in hell in getting her to sleep! But they do! She is apparently one of the better sleepers too! They have their ways of getting them to sleep - and for the non sleepers, they separate them into another room so they can't disturb the sleepers. |
