I love reading to my 5 year old daughter. Can anyone recommend a good series for me to start reading to her? Enid Blyton - my girls loved the Enchanted Wood and the Wishing Chair particularly. My DD (4) loves Mr Men / Little Miss books. They are cheap so we have heaps of them, but she still gets me to read Mr Impossible constantly. You could try Dr Suess as well. If she is OK without pictures, try Harry Potter. |

My 5 year old loved the Enchanted Wood series by Enid Blyton as well as Roald Dahl's chapter books.

I second the Enid Blyton suggestions.
My 5 year old DS loves being read the Tashi stories. They appeal to girls too as his 7 ear old sister read them herself before we got to read them. They also loved some Roald Dahl in articular BFG, James and the Giant peach and George's Marvellous Medicine. |

So many good suggestions in this thread! Most of them my DD loves too.
Another series my DD loves having read to her (she's not quite ready to read them by herself yet) is the Thea Stilton's. Each book is set in a different part of the world and for us it's been a useful wool to start discussions about the wider world, finding the city on the map, googling landmarks etc. We've read one's set in Paris, New York and Tokyo/Kyoto, but there are heaps more. |
