I started back at work this week, three days (in a row) a week.
DS (eight months old) is at daycare from 8-5.30 he doesn't take a bottle, and despite trying sippy cups and normal cups, is not really having any expressed breast milk (nothing like slaving away over a breast pump for it to go down the sink... Again... And again...argh!!). I've been expressing twice a day at work to keep up my milk stocks and supply. Normally I can express really quickly, but whilst I'm getting a reasonable amount out, it's taking a long time, that I don't really have to spare at work. Given that he hardly touches the milk, I don't really need to keep milk stocks up. So I'm thinking of just expressing once a day - is this likely to really impact my supply? My boobs haven't been getting very full at work either, so I dont need to worry about the comfort factor... Thanks!! |

Hi, he can build supply up again when you come off your 3 days of work and if he feeds a lot in the evening/overnight you will be fine. He'll tell your breasts what to do, let him take the lead!
Perhaps ask if the carers can mix some milk into his food otherwise could you keep the expressed milk for you to add to his food at home, it doesn't seem ideal to tip it out. All the best. |

You'll be fine. Neither of my kids would take a bottle. I expressed once a day for comfort and supply, which I made progressively later in the day until I didn't need to do it any more and supply was fine.

I switched from 2 expressing sessions to 1 to replace 2 feeds, and (because he was actually drinking the stuff) made up the difference with a session about 1.5 hours after the bedtime feed (right before I went to bed).
It made a huge difference at work, suddenly I started feeling like I had enough hours in a day. But don't waste the EBM. Use it in his cereal/porridge. |
