I'm sure there'll be a few experts here original.gif

After a crappy year last year, this year is my year of spoiling myself with things I've always wanted, and a Dyson vac is pretty high on the list.

I'm after recs for which model will suit my needs best.

Our main living area, and the kids bedrooms are carpet. The rest of the house is polished floorboards. We don't have any indoor pets. I have a dodgy back, and don't like lugging around anything heavy.

What would you suggest?

Based on what you've said, I would be inclined to get the DC35 Animal with the stick.

when i grow up i wanna be like me
this is the one I am drooling over at the moment. We have a dyson, few years old now and love it, but it's one of the upright ones and just difficult to store away nicely, so we are looking at this type for next time.

My sister has a dodgy back, she uses one of the upright ones and has less issues with it hurting her back then ones of the ones you pull along. They have a tube that pulls out to get into the tricky places.

I have a DC39 multifloor, which I use on both floorboards and carpet. It's great, but it might be a bit heavy to drag around if you have a bad back. There are a few lightweight vacuums listed on their website such as the DC38 multifloor.

ELH05, I also have a DC 44 animal and I absolutely love it! I only got it at Christmas and I'm so glad I did. I use it to vacuum small areas of floor and to get cat hair from my lounge.

Me me me and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it.

We have a German Shepherd that is indoors 90% of the time!

I can't do whole house in one go but I can do the high traffic areas. We have a large house (5 bedrooms, dinning, 3 lounge areas, study, 2 bathrooms).

So easy to clean the ceilings. I use it every day.

ETA I've only got our big Dyson out once since I have my DC44 to give the dog's lounge.

Awesome - I have the same sort of large house but want to use a cordless to whip around and clean up cat fur and baby mess ! I have a DC39 but would love a cordless.

Thanks - must keep a look out for some specials on one now !

Last week, as my combined birthday and christmas present from extended family, I went and bought the dc44 animal ( with a stick). I have used it most days. My house is all polished floor boards. The best is being able to go under the beds without lugging around something big. The battery lasts for 20 mins, but I think longer, as mine still hasn't run out yet.
You really need to shop around for the best price and play them off against each other.

We have the DC39, and while it's probably lighter than most and has the fancy swivel motion, I think it has a terrible design fault , which is the flat tube that connects the hose to the barrel. It's not only flat but also at a 90-degree angle, so when sometihng gets stuck (which is often in our case) it's an absolute bugger to unblock.
You basically have to make sure it doesn't go near anything larger than a marble, so you can't just stick it under the furniture and hope for the best. HTH.
