I am just wondering how many employed people get paid in cash these days?

I don't mean the people who are being paid "under the table", but legitimately.

I've heard of a few - it actually surprised me how many, but they are employed by very small businesses & the employers seem to be older.

My first job I was paid cash for, but that was back in the late 1990's

My last employer paid in cash. All the directors were older and refused to pay anything via EFT because they thought computers would steal their money. So, the choice was cash or cheque. Every week I would have to duck out and deposit my pay into my bank. Then there were all the cheques that had to be written and posted every month. This was 2 years ago. PITA!

I used to get paid in cash from a job I worked in in 2004/5 that's the last time.

We were a 7 day a week business and in a town without a bank (nearest 'bank town' was an hour drive away) - any chance to offload some of the giant piles of cash we would have building up was highly welcomed!

I wish!!

I once worked at a Fish & Chip shop for a day when I was about 15, at the end of the shift they handed me a bag of steamed dim sims and no cash. Not ideal hahaha.

I was paid cash in my previous job (15 years ago!).

I was just hearing of someone who applied for a loan, and said they were employed since X date. The lender asked for proof of income which they could not provide (apart from a bodgy looking letter from their 'employer') as they said they were being paid in cash ...
There were some other questionable 'facts' in the application as well, so I wondered.

Proof of income can be shown through tax returns. So qak I imagine it was the dodgy cash in hand jobs.
I got cash for a takeaway job I had about 12 years ago.

I m see heaps of small businesses do it. Both legit and none legit.
