I majorly overestimated how much paint I would need for my bedroom and have around 6L left. I was thinking about doing my ensuite but was wondering if you really need to have the specific bathroom paint? We do have it in our main bathroom, but I don't know if you HAVE to have it or if it's just recommended?
FWIW, there is an exhaust fan in the ensuite and the window is always open. There has never been a speck of mould in there in 5+ years. |

We used specific bathroom paint but i wanted a different colour in the bathrooms. There is a product that can be added to normal paint that turns it into a mould protector. Your local paint shop should have it and know about it (DH says he usually sees it at the paint counters).

I used normal paint in my bathroom, after talking with the guy at the paint shop he agreed it would be fine provided we always used the exhaust fan and had ventilation in there when the shower was on.
So far so good |

In all the renovations we do I always use the mould inhibitor (costs about $20 to add to a tin of paint) for high damp areas such as the laundry, bathrooms and kitchens. I've never had a mould problem in any of our houses in those areas. Best $20 you can spend. Just take your tin of paint in to where you got the paint and ask them to add it and shake it for you. |

Our painter used the normal paint- low sheen I think (never thought he wouldn't use bathroom paint). It was an expensive paint but I find if it gets moisture or splashes on it it leaves marks. This never happened before when we used proper bathroom paint.
I would buy bathroom paint. |

Sure, you can use regular paint, but it's worth buying the anti-mould additive even if you feel your bathroom isn't prone to mould.
