We've got a contract on a new house and will be moving soon. I also want to pack up a few things to take to my parent's place so the house won't look so cluttered (we're going to put it on the market). So those of who have moved recently what did you pack things in? Boxes? Jumbo bags? Where did you get them? Any tips for making the move easier? (I just looked at the settlement date, and we'll be moving with me at 34/35 wks pregnant. Great timing, huh?)

If it was me I would pack the items into boxes that way you could stack them up therefore taking up less room.

It is worth going to a storage place and buying proper moving boxes. They are sturdy, not too large and as PP said you can stack them.

The smaller the box the better as that way you aren't tempted to over fill which makes it harder to move, more likely to collapse and just a giant pain in the behind!

When i moved, I actually packed things like my crockery & glasswear into stackable plastic crates (I ended up with 6 of them)

I used reflex boxes, which i got from work (asked my employer first) and found them to be a perfect size for almost everything else.

I also found packing up my out of season clothes & not often worn clothes into suitcases very handy.

Definitely get removalist boxes. Lie PP said, you can buy them at storage places.
We have a freecycle yahoo group here and people often offer removalist boxes up for free as they wont be needing them anymore.

Definitely boxes! I would also use this an opportunity to declutter. If you hesitate about something before putting it a box put in another box called 'Donations'

I agree with the PP about packing up the out of season clothes, you don't need them now! I would also start eating myself out of the pantry and freezer. I would ensure that every meal used mostly pantry/freezer items and limit myself to buying just fresh fruit and veges

We moved recently and I found it cheaper to buy boxes on-line than the storage places. You can also rent boxes for 3 months.

We used a combination of book boxes, fragile boxes, tea chests, carry boxes (not so good) and plastic crafts (they can be heavy).

We donated all our moving boxes to the Salvation Army. They said they'd love to take them as they get so many requests for them. So maybe ring around?????

Try freecycle before you buy moving boxes. I see offers and requests for them all the time.
Also, if you know any nurses or other hospital workers, see if they can save some Baxter boxes for you (the ones that saline bags for drips come in). They're really strong and a bit smaller than standard moving boxes, so they're great for books and other heavy things.
