Hi.

Early hours of this morning I couldn't sleep and I was laying on my right side and baby was fairly active, then suddenly baby started shaking, it went for 10-15 seconds and had me so paranoid baby was having a seizure!

I can feel baby a lot this morning so baby is still well but the shaking caused anxiety last night and I couldn't sleep.

WDYT? Has anyone had this before.

I haven't called a doctor because I do feel like maybe I'm looking into it too much but I do want to reassure myself that the shaking was normal unsure.gif

TIA

I haven't had any experience but just lettign you know a lady had posted a similar situation and allot of mums replied that their baby did the same thing and one had mentioned that the nurse had said its because babies nervous systems are immature.

Hope that helps a little until other people can reply.

Only a ginger can call a ginger a ginger!
DD2 used to do that. I am currently trying to settle her to sleep, so it was nothing to worry about original.gif

I had that while I was pregnant with my little guy. I was about 37 weeks along and it felt like he was on a spin cycle in there - a massive vibration/seizure type feeling - then he went very still.

I called the maternity hotline in my pregnancy book and spoke to a midwife there, I don't know if she quite believed me. But she said to just sit quietly for an hour and if there wasn't any normal movements (like if it happens again, or if I don't feel any movement at all) to give them a call again and they would think about getting me in there for a checkup.

He started up with normal movements soon after and I never had another episode of the shaking, he's a normal 3.5month old now.

Im sure its normal, both of my babies did it. They make twitching movements when they are newborns too.

I would still show up at the hospital or your caregiver and asked to be monitored. Mention the episode so that they have the record on file. If it is out of the ordinary for you then you will need to access expert medical advice not post on a forum. I am sure as pps mentioned that there is nothing sinister but you need to confirm that with the right people.

It's probably hiccups.

There was a thread on here quite a while ago about the same thing, in which the OP said it was very, very different to hiccups, a rapid trembling, shaking sensation.

Yes it is common. I think that thread had about three pages of replies from people saying they'd had the same thing. If your baby is moving normally now I wouldn't worry. I have had several friends experience the same thing.

I think that was my thread! It felt like the baby was shuddering. I eventually spoke to the obs, and he said it was quite normal. My 3 1/2 week old is quite neurologically normal so far!

I've read about it - google it and you will see lots of women have had 'shaking' or 'vibrating' babies.

But yeah if you are worried you should get it checked out.
