| What housework? I don't have time for that! I am way t | |

We need to renovate an ensuite to a bedroom (not the main bedroom). At the moment, there is a sliding door. We are toying with the idea of not having a door altogether. For a few years, we will probably all use it as the shower space and the vanity will actually be bigger than our main bathroom. Down the track, we will leave it for mostly DD's use only. Have you seen ensuites without doors? I know that it's fairly common in new houses where they have open ensuites to main bedroom, but I haven't seen them in other bedrooms.

I personally hate ensuites without doors. And walk in robes. They need doors!

Have seen them in new houses, really dislike the idea.
I'm assuming there is a toilet in the bathroom? If not, it's not too bad, but the steam from a shower will still go into the bedroom, usually the bedroom paint is not up for a regular steamimngm bad for your clothes too! |

For me it'd be fine, though I'd make sure there is a fan to suck up any steam when showering.
I don't actually use the door to my ensuite (and if no ones home and I use the main bathroom or toilet I don't close it either). It annoys me to no end when I have to close the door cause someone is home lol. |

We built a house about 11 years ago, there was no door on the master bedroom ensuite.... it was always kind of awkward :/ Not that my husband and I are prudes, but we always felt like we were on show.
Our new house however has a sliding door on the ensuite, and it is so MUCH better! I say Go the door! |

We had this in our last rental and hated it. DH gets up at 4.30 so hearing the shower going not to mention brushing his teeth (how can he make so much noise?) drove me up the wall. We eventually compromised with him using the main bathroom with door for his morning ablutions. We're building a house, it has a door on the en-suite and DH is nearest to the door - bliss! |

If you're not going to use it as your room, then what will happen if your daughter/s have friends over & one of them is showering/toileting.
Personally I can see adult partners not caring, but it could be uncomfortable for children/teenagers. This post has been edited by CurrentlyIncognito: 15/01/2013, 12:13 AM |

that's the modern thing apparently and the one thing that annoys me in my house. it's actually not a problem though until there is a child sleeping over, then I worry that they are going to follow my kids in to the bedroom and see me naked. the design of the bathroom has the shower beside the opening so not in view of the bedroom and the toilet is in a separate room with a door

we don't have a door in our ensuite or walk in robe (new home built 4 years ago) and we have just gotten used to it.
don't need to turn the light on if using the toilet at night as there is plently of light coming thru window (street light) but you also can't chuck everything in the walk in robe to clean up as you can't just shut the door. it is annoying if we have guests and you want to use the ensuite you have to close the bedroom door or use the other toilet. |
