I'm still blown away by the experience.
I was walking with my DS to the postbox when I saw a Rainbow Lorikeet get hit by a car. I quickly ran out onto the road and scooped it up. I sat on the footpath and cradled it's warm little body, and stroked it's head I had intended to bring it home and call WIRES, but it had other ideas and flew off out of sight. I'm just so humbled by the experience. I've always LOVED Rainbow Lorikeets, and it was such a gift to be able to hold it and comfort it. Anyway I just wanted to share |

How lovely.
Lorikeets are my favourite bird. A few years ago I rescued one in a similar situation and nursed it back to health. He was left blind in one eye, so I kept him as a pet. He was my best friend. I was so sad when he passed away. |

Oh Mrs Snorks that's lovely!! I'm so sorry to hear he passed away :-(
I am a bit worried about this bird, and hope he is okay now. I was hoping to get him home to call WIRES to make sure |

rainbow lorikeets are really tough, they can looked really sick and then come good in a matter of minutes.

rainbow lorikeets are really tough, they can looked really sick and then come good in a matter of minutes. This is what surprised me! I was holding him and he was breathing heavily and blinking rapidly. So I think he was in shock, but otherwise uninjured. Which is why he flew away once he recovered. At least I am hoping that's the case |

That's lovely OP.
You're quite lucky it allowed you to pet it, they have quite a strong grip with their beak for such a little bird, and can easily tear through skin (speaking as the owner of one). They are tough and if he didn't die of injuries or of shock and could still fly off, chances are he'll be doing well. |

Glad you got him before he got squished! I love rainbow lorikeets, they're such characters.
We had a swallow fly at top speed into our window once. Knocked itself clean out. I thought it had broken its neck and was dead. I picked it up, and it came to. DD was so impressed to be able to see one of these birds close up (their wings are an amazing bluey colour). Then it realised where it was, and off it went. Hopefully not to ever have another close encounter with a plate glass window. |

Spikey - that's so beautiful!!! I used to have that happen a lot in my old house - but unfortunately it usually wasn't a happy outcome
