I'm reviewing our home and contents insurance policies and I'm looking to possibly getting home and contents insurance through comminsure. They seem to be quite reasonable with their premiums.

So I'm wondering what experiences people have had with them if they have had to claim. Would you recommend them?

I'm with them. I've had one claim (due to a leaky water pipe in the wall). They were fine, all got fixed relatively quickly and to a good standard. Actually didn't get fixed to my (or the assessors) standard the first time (they didn't do a good job on the re-plastering), so they sent the guys back to fix it properly!

We are with them. We had to claim after the gap storms, absolutely no problems at all. Our insurance has increased each year, but by reasonable amounts, nothing insane. The claims officer was very helpful and everything was done in a timely fashion

We're with them. We've had a few claims and they have been prompt.

We are with them. Had 1 claim for a broken window. Was quite a while ago now, cant recall any problems. Wasnt fixed with correct window tinting the first time, but that was fixed pretty quickly without fuss.

They were one I looked at back in Aug when Westpac put our premium up from $1000 to $2300 because we live in QLD. I ruled out Comm Bank for insurance as their flood cover was very restricted. Read the fine print and didn't like it at all. There premiums were cheap esp with a discount for being a customer. I went elsewhere.

Sorry to revive an old thread BUT we just got our home & contents insurance renewal and it is now $1000 dearer from last year!

2011 = $970 odd
2012 = $2000 odd but I talked them down to $1600 with an increased excess to $750
2013 = $2500 and how can I talk them down now when the excess is already so high!

Anyone have any tips on who might be a cheaper insurance company with flood cover?

I used to work in insurance and all I can say is, you really do get what you pay for.

Premiums might be cheaper elsewhere but make sure you read the fine print. The more you are covered for and the more claims that are paid out the higher the premium is going to be.

Unfortunately, weather events over the past few years have made premiums skyrocket. With climate change we can expect more and more and then we'll be looking back at the good old days in 2013 when premiums were 'cheap'. It really sucks!

We had to change last August due to premium rises. Went with RACQ. The didn't pay on many policies during the floods (well covered in the media) but have rewritten their policies and it looked ok to me. Suncorp, AAMI and Bank of QLD were other possibilities. Some we could exclude immediately as they were quite clear that flood cover was doubtful. We are not in flood area, but still want cover for every possibility.
