Dylan and Lucy....the joys of my life!!!
Hi there

Things were working fine until windows was reinstalled fri night. It's so frustrating. We get a pic but no sound on tv when computer is plugged in to it. We have tried diff HDMI cords so can't be the cord. Sounds fine on the computer. Sound on normal tv. Could there be some setting on the computer somewhere that won't allow sound from computer to tv?

go to the tool bar on the bottom right hand side of the scrren where you see a an icon of a speaker, click on that and you may find it has been muted or turned right down. This has happened to me way to many times as we run a TV tuner etc through the computer and I have often been curing why it wasn't working only to find DH has muted it on his last session to watch something else on the pc

Fembo, not tart.
Do you have a laptop? I had this happening with my laptop, but it wasn't a setting that caused it. I used to have the laptop plugged in with the adapter and the sound worked fine.
But then when I once hooked it up to the TV and the laptop was running on the battery only, the sound suddenly didn't work. took me 2 hours to figure out what was going on.
All I had to do was to plug it into the main power and all was well.

However, seeing that this has happened after a windows update, it sounds like a setting or something. If noone here can help you, I suggest you go to www.whirlpool.net.au
That's a computer and gadget forum. They have always been able to help me out with this kind of stuff.

Yes. There is.

Getting DH on to it.

Control Panel

Sound

Make sure "Play back device" is is HDMI as default.

If using other digital output to an amplifier, make sure "Digital output" default.

I got excited for a minute as I have been struggling with this since yesterday. When doing The above I can see HDMI but it is greyed out and I can't select it. Anyone have other solutions?

Are you playing movies via blue ray off the laptop or normal movies/DVDs?

How did you have the sound running before -through hdmi cable or other cable to tv?

Is the tv digital, high definition or older model?
