A thread on the general boards got me thinking about this.

I would like to make over our master bedroom this year. I have always loved the beach/tropical style of decorating, and know DH would love this too. But my house isn't a beach cottage, or a modern Noosa style home. Just a standard mid 80's brick veneer in the suburbs (no sea views, and 5km inland from the beach cool.gif ). Nice enough, and really I am happy with the exterior..but yes, it's not beachy or tropical at all. I mean if the inside of my house was to match the ouside, I would need to get the peach paint out biggrin.gif .

Do you have a theme for your home decore, and does it match your surroundings or your homes exterior? Do all your rooms have the same look? Just curious original.gif.

We have an Edwardian house. In the master bedroom i have decorated it in what i call contemporary French style. The walls are dark gray and ceiling and skirting (etc) is white. There is a white fireplace surround, with an elaborate metal fire place. The bed cover and main pillows are black adn the bed is black leather. There is a gorgeous chandelier above. None of the other rooms look like this. I say go for it! Bedrooms should be a bit of paradise.

Yes. It appeals to my sense of order. We have small cottagey looking reddish brick place and I've tried to renovate with the rustic cottage look and then give it a modern edge. But that's just the bare bones. We decorate it with whatever crap appeals to us at the time. I just don't want to install anything permanent that doesn't fit with the house.

If a cat doesn't like you, then what's wrong with you?
Yes. It's a dump on the outside as well as the inside.

Its a rental, and looks it on the outside. Original 70's bathroom and kitchen. Pale blue (why?) ceilings...

Walls covered with photos, drawings, pictures, paintings...

Not matchy with my stuff in here, but bare bones, very much so!

Our house is "that" house in our street. Our lovely dog has dug up our entire yard and half ripped down all the privacy screening along the fence line. It looks feral.

Inside is somewhat better, but wouldn't match the house exterior anyway...the house is quite new, but I prefer mid-century kitsch as a decorating style.

Not at the moment. Our house is modern and (by a generous description) clean lined and neat, on the high side of the street so impressive in the right light. The inside is hopelessly cluttered though and a lot of our furniture (and the walls) has been battered by the children.

If I was going for beachy I'd go stripped floors, white walls and blue accents.
