So this morning I got my first ever BFP! I'm still in complete shock, and alternating between sheer excitement and sheer panic!! My AF would normally be due today, so I wasn't expecting to see much when I did the POAS, but the second line came up strongly almost immediately. I see a lot of posts on here about feint lines, so I'm wondering if it's normal to get such a clear response on the day of a missed period. I'm using FR if that helps.

I'm slightly worried because I was at the GP on Monday with suspected gastro (looking back, perhaps it wasn't!). She asked if my last period was on time. I told her it was, and that we were TTC but my period wasn't due for another 5 days. She gave me maxalon and an antibiotic that she said shouldn't be taken in pregnancy. She prescribed it because she said me being sick was a greater risk to any potential pregnancy. I don't know now if maybe I was further along than I thought and maybe there is a greater risk from taking the medication. Sorry if I'm rambling. I'm a bit all over the place! Going to try to see a doc this afternoon. .

I had a strong bfp at only 8dpo so its possible your dates are correct. I. Have actually heard taking antibiotics gives a greater chance when TTC.

Double check at the doctors or even go to the chemist or call Mothersafe for an opinion on the one you were prescribed.

It is irresponsible of your dr to give you the antibiotic when you are TTCing and only 5 days out from your period. I was sick this time last year and on high doses of an antibiotic not recommended for pregnant ladies. She made it known I should stop TTCing until the course was over (we were sure I was not pregnant at the time)
All that aside I am sure everything is ok, just give one of the nurse hotlines a call to see what you should do.

I ended up going back to the clinic but I saw a different doctor this time. He has ordered all the bloods for me, and said to stop taking the antibiotics, but not to worry about it. The particular antibiotic I took is a Category B (Category A's are safe, and Category D's are the worst). So while it isn't ideal, I only took it for 4 days, and he said the risk is low with such a short window of exposure. So I'm quite relieved, and allowing myself to feel a little more excited now!

I would say your dates are correct. I got very light positives 1 week before i was due They got darker as i was getting towards when af would have been due and by the time af was due the lines were as dark as they could possibly get. And dont worry about the antibiotic thing, so many people take things that arent exactly safe during pregnancy before they know they are pregnant and everything works out ok.

Cat B I def would not worry. One of the meds they can give you for morning sickness is cat B (zofran) good luck with the bloods.

I think most people would get a strong positive on a FR by the time they had missed their period.
I had a fairly strong positive 3 days before my period was due and by the time I missed my period the pregnancy line was darker than the control line.

I got a very strong BFP with a FR in my last pregnancy which was calculated as only being 6DPO according to an early dating scan.

Conversely, I was pregnant with twins and didn't get a BFP until 7 weeks pregnant and even then, the lines were faint.

I don't think the strength of the line is too much of an indicator ...

I got a really strong line on a Pregnosis plus..
I tested on the Wednesday and AF wasn't due till the following Monday.
