Years ago I borrowed a book from the library and I have no idea what it was called or who wrote it, bit of a long shot but wondered if anyone recognised the story (I'm a bit hazy on details which doesn't help, lol)

It was based during WW2 and the main character was a woman who starts off as a normal girl but ends up becoming a spy/informer, I can't remember if she was Jewish or not but if she was it wasn't obviously so if that makes sense. She falls in love with a a guy and marries him (I think) but in the end she ends up with his father who is possibly a general or colonel or something like that. It was a love story but pretty exciting too.

Aargh, sounds rubbish but I really enjoyed it and would love to track it down, think it may have had a red rose on the cover.... Ring any bells with anyone?

Sorry can't help you with the title, but have you tried asking at library if they have a copy of your borrowing history?
I'm not sure if public libraries do it, but at school we can bring up what the kids have borrowed in the past.
Good luck.

I like cats, but I couldn't eat a whole one.
It wasn't Forbidden Places by Penny Vincenzi? Probably not, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

Could be Charlotte Gray, thinks it's by Sebastian Faulks. Cate Blanchett played her in the movie they made of it.

I was thinking Charlotte Gray too, but some of the details in the OP don't match.

Unfortunately it was when I lived back in the UK so might be difficult to find out, I guess I could possibly email the library, hmmmmm. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks guys I'll google the suggested authors and see if any titles ring a bell! I really want to read it again and it's bugging me!
