So it looks like I could be in the market for a new car. Having had a cars outside the norm for the past few years, I have no idea what's around. I'd be looking for 4 doors, preferably a sedan and not hatchback or sport back, fuel efficiency not a huge concern, and not after a lightweight 'bubble' car I.e. the Getz or Nissan Micra. If second hand, prepared to spend up to about $15 000. If new, up to $25 000. I'm thinking the VW Polo, Golf, or Jetta, Corolla, Vectra, but have yet to do any in depth research. Recommendations please!

i have had a vw golf and polo when i was living in the UK. Have no car here at the moment. However I LOVE those cars. The Golf is bigger and bigger boot the polo barley fitted my pram. They are an easy drive, reliable and so freaking economical. I really miss my car sad.gif

Mum to 2 girls
I have a VW jetta (diesel). I love it. Got it new and have had it for 5yrs now. Never had a problem. Boot is massive for a small car. Very comfortable to fit my family of four and have been known to stick the kids car seats next to each other and have an adult in the back seat with them. Fuel economy is great. I get around 800k's on a tank. Averages 6.9litres per 100k's. less if I did more longer distance driving.

Those replies don't help me decide! lol. I've just been drooling on the Mazda website and looking at the 3 with the SP25 luxury pack. Unfortunately, it takes me over budget but, compared to the Audi A4 I really really really want (again), it's considerably cheaper and therefore I may have a chance of swaying DH.

What about a small SUV?
Nissan X-Trail, 0% finance - brand new.

You said you didn't want hatch, so the Golf is out.

Mum has Mazda 3 and it's very low, so for me, getting in and out at 37w pg and putting DD in and out, it's too hard.

We've ended up with a Jeep Patriot $30k drive away and bought DH a 3yo Subaru Impreza ($15k)...

We're happy with both.

Six months ago I bought a brand new Toyota Prius C. I had looked at various cars including the VW's, Subaru Impreza and a few others. I settled on the Prius C after much MUCH deliberation......my main aim was to use less fuel and the Prius definitely does that. It's also very technologically advanced and ypu get a lot of really cool stuff included. I use it to drive to work and back (around 40 kms per day on a country highway) and as a weekend runaround. I've been very, very happy with my choice, it's a beautiful car.

My bold. We already have a touring 4wd, so don't need another SUV-type vehicle.

Re Jeep: I currently have a Jeep Wrangler and the company, dealer have all put us off ever buying another Jeep again!

But thanks for the suggestion original.gif
