Just after some opinions or experiences with public hospitals in Melbourne's south east. I went private with my first am weighing up my options (currently TTC) for the next one. I know some are zoned and that rules some out. Thank you!

Where exactly are you as there are a lot of hospitals to choose from. You can go Frankston, Monash Medical Centre (MMC), Dandenong, Casey, Sandringham and perhaps the Angliss (although this is more east).

I've had a baby at Casey and it was great. I've heard really good stories about the others too. Sandringham is a bit smaller and doesn't offer as much in the way of services if you need higher care. MMC is zoned unless you require their services ie need a tertiary hospital for medical reasons or complications in your pregnancy. Casey is a low risk hospital. Dandenong is between the two - just isn't a tertiary hospital.

Important thing is to book in early. I've heard of people living 3 km from Casey and needing to book into the Angliss (30km away) because they left it too late. Casey also offer a home birth program and caseload (but once again you need to book super early or you go on a wait list).

I had my 1st 2 at Dandenong and they were great. I really dont have a single complaint. I found the nurses there amazing and very caring.

I had my 3rd at Casey and the same there. They were great and i dont have a single complaint. (Except for the snoring lady next to me :s)

I havnt been to Frankston but from friends who have had babies there most of them said they would never go back there again.
