Side effects after stopping antibiotics

I had mastitis and had to take four courses of antibiotics - one course of Keflex and three of Dicloxacillin. I was experiencing nausea and some stomach upset whilst on the Dicloxacillin. I stopped taking them last Thursday. One week later and I am still experiencing major stomach upset. Anyone else been through the same?

I had to take a double whammy of antibiotics to treat a tooth infection (as in two types of antibiotics at once) and it totally screwed my digestive system!! I asked my sister (an ED nurse) what to do and she said to get some probiotics (like Inner Health Plus). I started taking them and about 3 days later I was back to normal.

Are you one the pill? It is less effective when taking antibiotics, I would take a pregnancy test to rule out pregnancy.... not to freak you out or anything, but that was my first thought.

Yes after some antibiotics, my tummy was completely out of sorts for a couple of weeks actually. I needed to avoid dairy or else it was really upset. It is now better with some probiotics as per pp. Have you advised our doctor about stopping the antibiotics mid course. Last time I did that, I got sick shortly after.

In 40 years I've never had any side affects after stopping antibiotics. I'd be going back to your GP for a check up.

Yep - I got that after having to take a double course of E-mycin. I was advised to take a course of pro-biotics to help my stomach recover.

Side effects should ease pretty quickly following cessation of your antibiotics so as PP say, maybe you should check with your doctor that you do not have another ailment? Dicloxacillin does the same to me. Good luck

I've been taking Probiotics for four days now. Is there anything else I can do? My tummy is so tender and it's no fun looking after DS when he wants to stand on my tummy. Even holding him against me hurts. Glorious I'm definitely not pregnant! gabbigirl I stopped taking them just when I started the fourth course of Dicloxacillin. I had the nausea etc before I stopped them.

I was reading that in severe cases where antibiotics kill too many good bacteria you need another course of a different type to level everything out!
