Sorry another school post...

I'm going school shopping today and was curious how many sets of uniform do you have for your child?

I was thinking 3 for ds who is starting kindergarten (NSW) so will be going 5 days a wk

Primary school - 5 polo shirts, and 6-7 various bottoms (for summer) skirts, skorts, shorts. Trackies in winter.

High school - DD will be getting 2 dresses, and 1 sports uniform.

My kids go to school everyday in a clean uniform.

Socks - plenty! I soak them all in Napisan together at the end of the week.

You can never have too many uniforms imo.

Ds1 is starting prep next year, we've got 4 sets. 1 on, 1 in the wash, 2 changes in his bag.

Lcasey - I'm curious as to why you need 2 changes in your DS bag? I used to put a spare pair of undies and shorts/skirt in but that was it.

I work full time so I try to avoid shopping mid week. My daughter has five summer dresses, two winter pinafores, five winter blouses, one sports tracksuit, two school swimmers, two sports shorts, two sports tops, six school undies, 6 pair summer socks and six pairs winter socks/tights, one blazer and three hats (we only ever know where two are at any one time!)

Last year DD had 5 polo shirts and 3 shorts (they dry really quickly) for summer and 5 tracks suits for winter. This was the perfect amount as I didn't have to wash every day, and allowed for drying time in winter.

This year I plan on getting 3 dresses for summer, and 2 skirts, 5 blouses, 2 jumpers for winter. Mainly because of the price.

It's what DS's school asked for. In case of accidents, or if they have trouble with the bubblers or something. It's actually what we do for daycare at the moment anyway, along with spare undies. It works really well for us.

Three of summer and winter.

Yr 7 boy - 2 summer shirts, 1 polo sport, 1 sport shorts, 1 school shorts. A few pairs socks, 1 sports wind cheater, 1 winter jumper, 1 long sleeve shirt. No long pants at all.

Yr 2 girl - the same, but 2 dresses instead of summer shirts, and 1 winter skirt.

Uniforms are expensive; no need to spend squillions each year. Mine are clean and neat, I just wash them as usual and they're fine.

I remember buying three shirts and two shorts when mine started school on recommendation of another mum - one on, one in the wash and one in the drawer, but you get 2 days out of shorts sometimes.

For me, this is not enough. Even though I wasn't working I found I didn't manage to wash every day and I hated them re wearing because apparently they are grot buckets.

So I upped it to 5 shirts and 5 bottoms and my world became happy. Last year due to being unable to source items the children would wear we had, at one stage, one bottom each for the girls and DD1 had only one top she would wear. That's not enough in anyone's language!

So my suggestion is at least 3 of each shirts and bottoms. You may find you want more and it may be prudent to get 5 now given how scarce the right color polo In the right size becomes after the beginning of February.
