Hi,

So I think we have decided on a girls name if this baby is a girl.......Eleanor Frances
Im not a fan of Ella as a NN and I know you dont need a NN but we will most likely shorten it as we do with our son William to Will and if its a boy Patrick Francis he will get Patty. So I was reading on here someone has a daughter Elena and her NN is Leni which I really like....what are your thoughts?

The 19th century nick name for Eleanor was either Nell (English) or Nora (Scottish}. I have a lot of Eleanors in my family tree and they were nick named this way.

I'm not into nicknames.

I know an Eleanor who is an Ellie, but why not just call her Ellie! Eleanor is a beautiful name, it doesn't need shortening.

Ella is stunning.

Patty? Seriously for a boy. I think he might object when he's older, and by then it would have stuck.

I think the NN for Eleanor have been mentioned but I can't help commenting on Patty - to me Patty is a girl's name, short for Patricia. Paddy is a boys name, or just Pat but that is also a bit girly for me.

If you use Eleanora you can also have Nora as a NN.

I also don't like nns.

As a PP has already said Eleanor is a gorgeous name wub.gif please don't shorten it as it doesn't need it.

My husband's grandmother was Ellen and went by the nn Nell. If you felt you had to use a nn I would use that for Eleanor.

I like Eli - and at least then you are half way to actually saying their name rather than some of the other derivatives.
