Mirror, mirror, shiny glass, tell me that is NOT my ass!!
I'm in a panic...

I'm due for my U/S this morning at 8.15am and was told yesterday they hadn't received the referral. I couldn't get hold of my Fertility Specialist yesterday and by the time I got home, it was too late to call the clinic to ask them to do the referral.

I'm going to try and call them this morning, but because it will be 'morning clinic' they are flat out and don't know if they'll be able to call me before my appointment.

Are you able to get a scan done without a referral?

BTW This is the 3rd time in 4 weeks I've been there, so I don't know if that will make a difference. It's been a hellish 2 weeks waiting for this scan and I don't know if I can do another week without knowing.

I'm not 100% sure but I think they can do the scan but can't give you official results or charge it to medicare or something like that. The ultrasound place would be the best place to tell you.

Hopefully it shouldn't be an issue. Often refferals take a while. As long as they're confident it will come at some stae it shouldn't be an issue. If there is a Dr in your clinic it should only take them a minute to sign a refferal to be faxed over...

Try not to stress.

ETA they can't get paid by medicare unless they have the referral.

if its a straight forward scan, they should be able to do it, and get the referral from the dr afterwards

this is if they "know" you dr

i used to have scans without referrals, but i was having weekly scans, and my sonographer knew what she was doing, so the piece of paper was just a "paper trail"

good luck!!!

Is it possible to get an urgent appointment with a gp to get another referral? I noticed in your 'good news' thread you had a bit of bleeding last week. I would consider that urgent.

I am not sure if they can proceed with a ultrasound without it. The only ultrasound I have had without is a 3d/ sexing scan.
And that was funded by myself and I was clearly told it was not for medical purposes.

How about just turning up to emergency? Your bleeding you have makes it a valid option.

Good luck and I am crossing my fingers for you.

I hope it's good news.

Can you go to the GP for the referral as a back up just in case your specialist doesnt pull through. How slack of them!

Bwok~Bwok this happened to me once and while the less experienced receptionist was saying "No! " someone else walked in and went "She's under Dr Fancyshirt - it's an IVF one, the referral WILL come.."

And I went through.

A referral is needed to claim Medicare benefits. Can you see a GP to get a referral. If you have a regular GP you may be able to phone ahead and be able to pick one up. The ultrasound clinic may be able to contact your specialist and have the referral faxed over. I hope you are able to sort it out, you don't need this scan delayed.

No, no it wasn't them, I think it was me! I've had so much going on lately I honestly can't remember if I asked them to send it through or not.

I'm about to head off and see how I go, I'll call the clinic on the way to the appointment. Just need to breathe!!
