I was booked in for an induction (39wks) due to previous birth history of big babies and should dystocia in the last birth.
Had two lots of gels and was advised its still not favorable so opted to try again in a week. Has anyone had a failed 1st induction and went on to either a) go into labour on their own b) 2nd induction worked? The next time they try it will be via the Attard Cathedar - has anyone had this done? |

Hi there, sorry I can't help you, but I am currently going through the same thing.
My doctor wants to induce around 37.5-38 weeks due to a previous (minimal) shoulder dystocia with my daughter. I am having a vaginal exam next tuesday and hopefully "something" is going on down there (cervix soft, some effacement etc) to make the induction easier. If not, I can prolong the induction date (and risk birthing a bigger baby). Hopefully someone else has some answers, and I'll check in on this thread to see too! |

I'm sorry I'm not much help but i understand what you're going though.
With my 3rd baby i was booked in for an induction also at 39weeks. I had the cervidil tape inserted for 24hours and then 3 rounds of the gels. I was discharged after 3days at .5cms exactly the same as when i had been admitted. I went back about a week later (40+3) and had my waters broken! Contractions took an hour to begin and baby was born within 30minutes Hang in there, i know you must be deflated but hopefully a few more days is all your body needs to go into labor spontaneously. |

Oh my, that sounds like my last birth! I ended up having 4 lots of gel over 5 days and eventually they could JUST get in to break my waters (I have had my waters broken before but this was horrid as I was quite tender from all the gel and internals!) I ended up going in to labour 30min later and having him 7 hours after that!
I was exhausted by the end of it (I was in hospital being monitored that whole time!)!and in hindsight could have waited because he was not anywhere near as big as they thought (he was only 7p3...his older brother who got stuck was almost 3 pound heavier, hence why they were being cautious. My shoulder dystocia birth was VERY scary, I still have vivid memories of watching them trying to revive my poor baby and there was no way I was risking it again) So, yes, eventually I did go in to labour! |
