DS is 10, he loves doing stuff, but it is not "brave". He loves the beach.

This year he is doing nippers down here at our beach house. It can be a fairly rough surf beach, so sometimes nippers is in the bay beach instead of the surf.

He also hates seaweed, kelp etc, which can be fairly prevalent at low tide when you go out a fair way.

Tonight was nippers training, so not just a normal session but for those that want to do competitions, the surf was quite significant, and apparently there were some wayward bluebottles - we don't really get them down here.

He just did so well. The swim out through the surf was quite significant, and he just did so well, the large number of times they did it. And then on the board, he got the board out through the surf so much better than the rest, who have been doing nippers for some time, and generally are locals.

He has been practicing so hard on the board, and now can kneel up and paddle, when it is calm.

Sometimes he seems to struggle to understand the connection between hard work and success, but he has really got it for this. The fact that he wants to spend all day every day in the surf is probably something that helps.

DD tried Nippers, she was the only Nipper that was scared of the water! we only lasted half a season.

That is so awesome JRA! Well done to your DS. I also wish your mum could see his achievements.

My DDs all do surf club, two are in nippers and one is now a senior. We had a statewide surf carnival on the weekend and it is so great to see how popular the sport is becoming. There were heaps of younger kids trying it out, particularly in the under 8's.

I just had to add, he competed in his first full on carnival yesterday and just to see him work his heart out was massive. And to get a ribbon to take home for his swim was just great.

We then had a club carnival today, and I know I have never seen him try so hard at anything.

He is now asleep on the couch.

Well done R! It is fantastic to see when it clicks about hard work = achievement isn't it?

Our DS is a year younger than yours & he had an aha moment with karate this year & due to pure hard work made it into grading for another level.

Nippers is such hard work but very rewarding. I hope R enjoys his sleep & I just bet he will be ravenous when he wakes up!
