Anyone have/had this? I had a scan yesterday and found out that i have a dynamic cervix that was shortening/lengthening as the scan was being conducted. I am currently 29 weeks pregnant and have previously had laser treatment to the cervix (LETS). In the past couple of days I have had some pain/twinges in the cervix when the baby has changed position, one day it was so bad i could hardly walk. This has scared me a little - i have my ob appointment next week, but in the meantime have been told to not do anythign too strenuous or load bearing, including my pregnancy weights/cardio class or any squats. Does anyone have experience with this and did it result in preterm labour for you? |

I dont know. I know when it was long she said it was 3.4 and that they wouldnt bat an eyelid at that measurement, however the first measurement was short so thats why she was concerned
ill find out next week at my appointment. I have the DVD on hand of the scan, so i could go through that and see if i can glean any information. |

based on the fact that you arent seeing your ob till next week, doubt its "that" short
just stop exercising and heavy lifting and after seeing my scans each week, they dont mark the cervixlength on the scans.... |

Yeah thats what I thought, if it was really short they would have pulled my appointment sooner (i already had the appointment booked as its my 30 week checkup), the did take down my number to call me if they wanted to see me sooner
i figure they'll do more frequent scans to check if it changes |

f it was an issue, the sonographer would have automatically booked you in again.
an average cervix is between 3-5cm 3.4 is not short. that would never have thrown up a red flag for them if you are 2.5 and under, then she would have arranged extra scans. im assuming you have gone to 3... yours is not a dynamic cervix. you have a slightly shortened cervix... i had a dynamic one... it would go from 1.8 to 1.2 then back to 1.6 |

She called it a dynamic cervix and went and showed the results to my OB immediately who was in the ultrasound area (I am at a public hospital)
I also dont know what the shortened length was, but i believe it was under 3. Her very first measurement was short, it was later that it thickened again to normal range. It was not as short as what you are talking about, but enough for her to be concerned and for them to recommend i dont do my classes! Have you had LETS or something like that in the past? Thats why they were looking at it to begin with. |

She also mentioned that if she hadnt have seen it short, the 3.4 wouldnt even cause her to bat an eyelid. It was the initial short measurement that concerned her, and the fact it shortened again during the scan, so was changing during the scan.
She said it was a better position to be in than a static short cervix (in my case). So yes, definitely dynamic. |

yep
i had the leetz procedure years ago and my ob thought thats what caused it.... mine was diagnosed at my first us and we had fortnightly scans - private, and yes it was expensive, but worth it! call your ob and demand an earlier appt - u seem to be worried with everything, so maybe they can help. if they wont give you an earlier appt, then i would keep demanding an earlier one. |

Mine was 2.5 at 12 wks. At 22 wks I stated having fortnightly scans. At 24 wks I had to finish work and go on progesterone pessaries ( I was on these for 10 wks). At 31 wks I was admitted to hospital as my cervix was 0.8cm and funnelling, I was also haing contractions. I ended up being induced 1 day before my due date. Not sure what length it got down to as we stopped doing scans when I went into hospital at 31 wks. I was on strict bedrest from 24 wks.
Mine never shortened or lengthened during a scan though. We are not sure what caused mine. |
