HI all,

My DH and I are planning to relocate from WA to Adelaide in the near future to be closer to family.

We are wanting to live on the eastern side (as this is where my fam is) areas such as Oakden, Northgate, Dernancourt, Rostrevor etc.

What I'm most concerned about is schooling for our DD's. DD1 starts pre-primary this year and is going to a private catholic school. She has already been at the school last year for kindy and we really like it, lots of family involvement and a great sense of community.

That's what I'm looking for in Adelaide too. It doesnt have to be catholic but we would prefer it.

Can anyone please give me some info on schools in these areas and also just good family suburbs to live in on the eastern side.

Also my girls are big into dancing so any tips on good dancing schools would be great too.

TIA

Hi, and welcome to Adelaide!

I would love to be able to answer some of your questions, but unfortunately I am "down south" the opposite of town that your will be.

One of the good things about Adelaide is that nothing is too far away, and the city is quite easy to get around too.

All the best with the move, and I hope that someone is able to help you with your questions.

Not sure on the catholic schools but for state ones, you would have some fantastic choices in the dernancourt/rostrevor area rather than the northgate/oakden area

Hi there

I live in Oakden but my kids go to school at Athelstone so i know a lot about the area...while i love oakden to live it doesn't have any decent public schools, however it does have St Martin's Catholic school R-7. However i think the Athelstone/Rostrevor/Newton area is nicer and thats where we will be moving too in the next year or so. You have a choice of Athelstone Primary or Stradbroke Primary (both excellent public schools) or catholic schools St Francis of Assisi (Co-ed R-7) or Rostrevor College (boys R-12).

My girls do dancing at Lisa Innis which is based at Athelstone, very happy with it and my girls loved performing in the end of year concert. It is $90 per term for the tinies (3-5) and slightly higher for older girls.

If you end up in the catchment for Trinity Gardens PS then you are onto a good thing. Excellent primary school in eastern suburbs.

Welcome to Adelaide. I kind of hang out near to the areas you are talking about!

St Joseph's Tranmere is a popular Catholic school in the area.

The best public primary schools near Rostrevor are Stradbroke and Athelstone, as PP says. However it is an expensive area to buy in. A significant number of people live in the surrounding suburbs such as Dernancourt and Windsor Gardens and bypass a number of public schools to get to Athelstone School. (like PP LOL) East Marden is apparently also very good with a family/community feel. I hear rumours that Charles Campbell College - an R-12 school is back on track. Ctholic High Schools are prevalent in the area, or a short bus ride.

There are a lot of dance schools in the area, Destenos (sp?) is another and Northern Eastern Academy of Dance. Innis is actually $95 per term for Tinies, $100 for U6 and $110 for U8 and above. Lisa also does CSTD exams in Tap, Jazz and Ballet.

I should be cleaning my house
8 mins from Northgate (yes, I have timed it as my best friend lives in Northgate) is my favorite family suburb- Nailsworth. The public primary school is absolutely fantastic and has a great reputation. It is an expensive area to buy in, but not too bad to rent in (coming from WA it probably seems cheap!). The school is strictly zoned, so XH and I rented close by to get the kids in. I then bought 5 mins away in a cheaper suburb.
