DS has pretty much only ever been breast fed and I'm going back to work next month (2 days a week) so I'd like to wean him off a couple of his day feeds. I've been trying to get him to have a bottle of formula or EBM for the last week but he refuses to take it from me or DH so I tried it in a cup and he'll have a little bit that way but not much. Just wondering if I should keep trying to get him to have some or would he be ok without it.

Also does anyone know if it's possible to wean them off day feeds but still feed at night?

Thanks original.gif

Is he going to be in daycare? They're often much better at getting the kids to drink from a bottle or sippy cup.

If it were me, I would keep offering but not stress too much. On the days DS was in daycare they would give him one feed of EBM from a sippy cup, and then he would just BF morning and night as usual.

I found that DS was at his least interested in milk, from a cup or BF, at 8-10 months, but then became more interested again.

Thanks for that KRT original.gif

My mum will actually be looking after him, but she might have more luck.

I was actually thinking, if he won't drink the formula maybe I could just use it in some farex, that way he is still getting the nutrition...? original.gif

At the age your baby is now my dd only got milk via cup (she would drink very little) and in food. This was because she was refusing breast and bottle so I had no other way of feeding her.
It worked perfectly and she thrived with mainly spoon feeding food mixed with milk.
For your little one you could just use a cup for water and ? some milk if taken plus normal foods in daycare and bfeed when you are back together again.
Plenty of parents have done this, if you take a look in the Breastfeeding forum there is a pinned thread about Bfing and returning to work, it has lots of member stories that are very similar to yours.
I'm sure it will all go fine for your mum, she is an experienced women (she raised you!) and your baby will get enough fluids and food whilst you are separated, some how, your mum and baby will work it out together.
Try not to stress during this time before returning to work, so long as you have some alternative strategies to try (or for your mother to try) your baby will survive.
Some mums don't cut down feeds prior to returning to work, they express at work until if they are getting full and uncomfortable.
All the best.
