So I read it in a bad romance novel blush.gif and I thought I would ask EB names experts.

Is Fia a name in it own right? Does anyone know one?

What names could it be the shortened version of apart from Sophia?

Maybe it's a nickname for Fiona?

It is an Italian name meaning 'flickering fire' but I've never met one.

I've come across one, it was meant to sound like "fear", and in a certain accent it does.

I think it's used as a NN for Fiama? I've come across a Fiama, I like that better and prefer Fia as a NN.

How strange! I came across this name only yesterday and instantly loved it! So I looked it up on BTN and nothing came up. But I really like it original.gif

I work with a Fia, she's a lovely Maori lady. I'm not sure if it's a traditional Maori name though.
Personally I prefer Thea.

We call our daughter Fia, short for Sophia.

We mostly started doing it because her cousin calls her that (couldn't pronounce Sophia) and it was cute. It's kinda stuck original.gif
