TTC 19 months now for 1st child & feel very heartbroken.
Have been referred to a Gyno & they did a heap of test including laparoscopy. Went on clomid for 3 cycles & it did nothing but hot flushes & bad night terror. Now been referred to another Gyno at Melbourne IVF. She has suggested IUI which again need to wait another 6 weeks for the next appointment to talk about that. Wrrrrrr
Has anyone had success with IUI? How many goes did it take & was the process bearable?
Thank you!

I fell pregnant first go with my IUI (using clomid as well) - so I'm a fan.

The most annoying part was the running around beforehand. You have to get your DH to provide a sample that morning, take it to a clinic to get 'washed', wait for half an hour while they do this, then take it back to your Dr office for the IUI.

The actual process was fine. Kinda like a pap smear - use a speculum, a tiny little tube up into the cervix, then that's it. I laid down for 10 mins afterwards, but there was no pain or anything.

For the practicalities, mine cost $880 with $500ish back from medicare.

I had success 3rd time around with IUI. I'd been trying to fall pregnant for around 20 months prior to that.

It was 9 years ago, so not sure whether everything is still the same, but I didn't find the process too bad.

The daily needles were fine as DH could just give them to me everyday, but then the trigger injection had to be done immediately after they called and couldn't wait until I got home from work, so I had to get the help of a friend at work to give me that one as I didn't feel confident doing it myself. The procedure itself was as PP said, not unlike a pap smear.

I didn't have all the running around as PP did on the day of the procedure, as I think I had a set time to be there and DH organised to take his sample so I wasn't waiting around. However there was a fair few visits to the clinic leading up to it, to have blood tests, ultrasounds etc so it did cut into a bit of work time for me.

The procedure was fine, I guess the only difficult part was when the procedure didn't work.

I fell pregnant with my first IUI in November after 20 months TTC#1. Now 8 weeks along.
I gave myself all the injections, they werent that bad at all. Cost was around $800.

We had tried 4 clomid cycles with no success so changed FS who suggested IUI. On the actual day, DH sample was quite poor with a count of only 1 mill so we were told not to get our hopes up too much. But it worked so very pleased we went ahead with it.

Best of luck!

You said no strings could secure you, at the station...
Our 3rd IUI resulted in DS. The process itself isnt hard once you get used to the injections, although getting up early for the morning bloodtest/scan sucked. This time around it didnt work and we are doing IVF but I'm not stressed by it like I think I would be if I hadn't done IUI (I guess I think of it as a stepping stone fertility treatment, not exactly natural conception, but not as full on as IVF)

Where did you do yours then?

It's a pretty simple process. It also depends on whether you are using injectables, clomid or natural.

They recommend a min. of 3 goes. I didn't have success off mine. DP went into the clinic an hour before me, gave his sample, they washed it and then I arrived and had it inserted. Had to lay there for about 20 - 30mins afterwards, and off I went. Your DH/DP can be with you through this process as well.

We had to take the sample to Qld Fertility Clinic in the city that morning to get that all sorted and then the actual IUI took place in my Ob's office.

I didn't realise that people used the daily injectables for an IUI. I just used clomid and then had a trigger shot the day before.

My husband and I have been trying to conceive for 18months and this will be our first IUI cycle. I am day 1 today so will start the injections in a couple of days. I was found to have a pituitary adenoma and have been on meds to reduce my prolactin levels. The specialiast hoped we would fall naturally after that but unfortunately it hasnt happened. May I ask how careful everyone has been with caffiene etc. I have the occasional wine but have not stopped that. I enjoy a daily coffee but wondering if I should stop that too!?

I have had success with IUI after 3 months of taking clomid and failing to ovulate. I did IUI with injectables for my POCS.

I have had success on 2 separate occasions each time on the first round.

At my clinic (IVF Australia) DH would take his sample on IUI day into the lab in the morning and then a couple of hours later I would go to the clinic for the actual IUI procedure.

Good luck!
