Hi
I have a few questions. My baby girl just turned one, and she still ocassionally wakes in the middle of the night for her bottle. She goes to bed at 6pm and will wake around 3, should she be able to sleep through without needing a feed? Also I haven't started her on cows milk yet, should I start her now and do I just begin with replacing one formula feed with milk. She eats a lot of different solids and is a really good eater, she has started not wanting her formula much during the day now, but still wants a bottle in the middle of the night. Also I have started brushing her teeth but the toothpaste says not to allow them to swallow but how do you stop that, she hasn't mastered spitting out the water. Any help woud be greatly appreciated. Thanks |

No she doesn't need milk at night but may be thirsty. Offer a sippy cup of water.
And no toothpaste until she can spit. Brush with plain water. |

My son was BF but I started giving some cows milk on his cereal when he was 12mths old.
With the toothpaste....we have had a dental check up - familiarisation. The dentist said the low flouride toothpastes (you can find them near the kids toothbrushes) are fine with regards to toddlers not being able to spit. You only use a tiny amount. She recommended toothpaste/brushing teeth from 12mths of age Just to add, our appt was when he was 2yrs old. That is when I started the toothpaste. Hi
Sounds like the 3am wake for the bottle is more of a habit than a need. I'd try offering water first. Any reason your bub isn't on cows milk? Maybe milk before teeth cleaning and bed might fill her up. Toothpaste isn't necessary yet. |

We brushed with water at that age.
We did use toddler formula in his bottles though, and cows milk on cereal etc. He had either a breastfeed or a bottle before bed to fill him up. I agree that it's worth giving water a go at night time, though she might be cross about it at first and it might take her a few nights to get used to it. |

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll try for water and see how I go.
