So if you have a fire plan.

And your main evacuation point is to a place that is now declared extreme - wwyd? Second option is to stay in place (well go to the large local shopping centre) and wait for evacuation call and go to the designated area?

Main evacuation point would involve driving for 200km through national park in a less than stellar car to an area that is also at risk.

So wwyd and is there anyone that could talk through specifics of what is best to do in a a particular situation. Have looked at NSW RFS website and it gives general advice but nothing that is that specific.

Can you call the Bush Fire Information Line 1800 NSW RFS (1800 679 737)? I am not sure if they are open tonight.

In any case - your current main evacuation point does not sound like a viable choice given the possible conditions tomorrow. Any chace you can leave tonight?

You want to head somewhere were there is a decent amount of civilization, and much less national park. How far are you from a place like that?

Sorry just for clarity we are the first option on their fire plan. Which makes sense most of the time but it just happens that we are both in "catastrophic" at the same time. We are heading to a safe place tomorrow but the "risk" for them driving to ours is possibly not worth it. It is hard to weigh up though which is why some specific advice would be really helpful.

I know there are no "failsafe" options and weighing up the risks isn't as straightforward as it may seem sad.gif

It would be very bad to be stuck with a broken down car somewhere in a national forest 100km from your destination on a catastrophic fire day. Second option may be better.

From your options I'd go local shopping mall & wait from there - clean, public toilets, prob food and water and easy for firefighters to defend in a pinch. Possibly got AC too.

I wouldn't risk the national park in your car - could be a horrible disaster sad.gif

All the best, take care!

Um, I think those details are pertinent to the decision making process. I don't know the area well, how far does she need to drive just get out of a catastrophic zone, is there somewhere closer than you like a mall or a beach in the less dangerous zones???
