I am not asking for medical advice, rather, shared opinions

I have gall stones - diagnosed about 18 months ago. Not bad enough to do anything about - have only had 1 bad attack in that time, and compared to people who have had 'bad attacks' it really wasnt that bad... I basically have discomfort from the bottom of my right breast and down about 10 cm - ie a hand span.

Now I have noticed that I have had no pain at all for about 6 months. My cholesterol has improved and have reduced my fat intake to a degree.

I have noticed that the last few days the discomfort has returned, and it very unfomfortable, but not painful or sharp or anything like that. Enough to have me walking around rubbing it constantly.

The things that I have done differently over the past week or so

- healthier lifestyle, some might call it a diet happy.gif very little fat at all, lots of healthier eating after Christmas blow out

- not drinking - am not a heavy drinker but might enjoy a couple of glasses of wine during the evening a few times a week - not currently drinking

- have been exercising a lot more

- hot, hot days - over 35C for the past week.

So, could any of these factors contribute to my recently returned gall bladder issues. Just curious

thanks

When I was waiting for my gall bladder removal surgery I was reading up about what I can do to avoid another attack and apparently if you don't have enough fat in your diet it will cause pain also so you need to get just enough if you google you will find a few sites telling you food do's and donts

I had one bad gall bladder attack and they removed mine a few weeks later so I didn't have to live with it. I was told to reduce the risks of having another attack in the mean time, cut down on fatty food (which it sounds like you've done). Apart from that, I'm not sure there is a great lot you can do.

They say many people have them and live with them without even knowing. Perhaps your body is just tottering between the 2 right now.

Good luck. I wish noone the pain of a bad attack.

The only thing that triggers my gallstones is avocado. Have you had any lately?

I can eat all the maccas and fish n chips and not have any pain but a bit of avo on toast sends me to the ER!

YES! I had some last night - about 1/4 I have also been having it a bit over the Christmas period - how interesting! Although it is pretty high in fat, I guess

Same, the occasional feast of hot chips are fine. I make my own pizza and while I use full fat cheese, I use it sparingly. Maccas is also fine, although I would be lucky to eat there every couple at months at most.

Thanks for the replies

Bingo original.gif

Maybe give it a week or two and try some avocado again and see if that is what's causing your discomfort. Then at least you'll know what causes your pain.

Talking about gall bladder mine is playing up today....have atleast one episode a week anything from mild to absolutely excruciating.

I find rockmelon, le rice, and coffee, and a few other things set me off. My dr said sometimes there just isnt a reason it just happens.

I know surgery has risks and is not to be taken lightly, but my gallstone attacks were horrendous and I wasn't able to pinpoint any obvious triggers. The pain of surgery was nothing compared to an attack so if you do find that it's getting worse consider having your gallbladder removed. I wish I hadn't waited so long before deciding to have mine out.

Interesting about the avocado...I had a doctor suggest laying off eggs?

Either way, good luck. I hope it settles back down and good on you getting into a healthy routine after the holiday period. original.gif

I was told once you have them you have them. They can cause no issues for years on end and then you can have an attack.

I was never able to pinpoint a specific food (fatty or not) that caused the attacks. At first mine were triggered by pregnancy with years in between attack free. I then had about 6 attacks post pregnancy over a 6month period varying in severity.

I am so glad I made the choice to have it removed. I hated living in fear of another attack (it would ruin a holiday!) and I found them quite debilitating and would be exhausted the next day. A severe attack can also leave scarring and can they potentially be quite dangerous.

Hope you can pinpoint a trigger or they magically go dormant! It's pretty unpleasant isn't it sad.gif
