We are really hoping to start TTC for our second child.

When i was pregnant with our first child blood tests determined that my immunity was low for measles mumps and rubella and chicken pox.

So in November i had MMR shot and first chicken pox dose.
Then 6 weeks later i had the second dose of chicken pox.

GP said to wait before TTC until 6 weeks later from second dose.

I called the GP to ask if we could start TTC earlier than 6 weeks as we want to start trying at the end of the month and was told min 4 weeks then said don't try this month at all.

I haven't built a good relationship with the GP yet as i just started going to this practice and with the conflicting advice im so confused. Some research online says 4 weeks.

Can anyone share their experience with this? Has anyone just recently had their boosters? Can anyone help?

I had the MMR booster late last year. It was given in two injections, 4 weeks apart. My GP told me to hold off on TTC for 4 weeks after the second injection. Not sure about chicken pox, though.

ETA: actually not sure if MMR was a booster or full one as I had zero immunity to mumps (blood test indicated that I'd never had the mumps one ever in my life for some reason)

I'm not sure exactly what the recommendations are, but I do know that in Victoria, if you need AC, they will test you. If you need the booster shots you then have to wait 3 months from the first one before you can start your AC treatment.

I know you really want to get on with trying for a baby, but in your shoes I would probably wait and follow the GPs recommendations. My reason for this is that it is really only one cycle's difference, and if you got pregnant this month and were so very unlucky that the pregnancy had complications arising from you not waiting, you would really feel bad about it.

I do completely realise that waiting an extra month is some kind of torture, and I'm not denying that at all...just saying what I would do. If I was on the pill I would probably stop this month and just use alternative contraception until the 6 weeks was up.

All of that said....I'm completely infertile so can only conceive via AC, so I have no choice but to follow the "guidelines".

My understanding is that it is pretty important to wait the 6 weeks, as frustrating as that must be, but it's particularly important when you have been immunised against something that can cause birth defects (like rubella).

Something to remember is that we don't always use the same vaccines as they use in other countries and that there can be variations between brands even in one country, so the information online is not necessarily relevant to the vaccine that you received.

It is a pain when you just want to get cracking though!

I was told I would have to wait 12 weeks and a few of the ladies in my buddy group had to wait 12 weeks as well

I had the MMR and was told to wait 12 weeks, I just had one injection. Didn't need chicken pox so don't know about that one. I've just been looking it up and this is the department of health’s recommendations: http://www.health.gov.au/internet/immunise...-specialrisk232

They recommend 28 days between last dose and TTC for both MMR and Varicella (chickenpox) and say that both are contraindicated in pregnancy. There are details you can read for yourself. Both vaccines are live so there is a theoretical risk that you can catch the disease from them. Due to this risk the manufacturers of both vaccines recommend a 3 month wait.
Personally I waited the 3 months. As much as I wanted to start TTC I decided it was a risk I couldn't take.

I would wait.
They are live injections and therefore your blood is actually carrying the disease etc... Hence causing birth defects as such as actually getting mumps etc.

For peace of mind, as much as it sucks waiting, I would hold off. Just to be safe.

Thanks guys, i really wish i we could start now but like most of you said better to be safe than sorry. At the end of the day whats most important is that the baby is healthy.

We really wanted an october baby and we def dont want a nov or dec baby so i guess we wait a while longer.
