Between January 2012 and March 2012; I lost about 12kg... I need to lose around 25 - 30kg and for me, losing 12 was huge. I have never managed to lose more than 5 or 6 kg ata time and was so proud of myself. Then DH and I went on a holiday, and when we got back one of the kids was sick, then I was sick and I basically fell off the wagon in a pretty big way and never got back on. I think I have put about 8kg back on since then cry1.gif. I need to get started again and this time I have two distinct advantages... I know what worked last time and I know how easy it was to lose focus and undo all the work I did. I've set my goal which I know is achievable as I've done it before (re-lose the 8kg that I put back on plus an extra 2kg by Easter... I did it once, I can do it again!) and I was thinking about joining weight watchers online, mainly for the tracking tools. However, I've been reading the reviews for the WW Android app, and it looks like it's rubbish... I don't want any excuses for not sticking to it this time and I am concerned that not being able to keep track is a problem. The my fitness pa. app however has great reviews and is free.

So is it worthwhile signing up to WW if I was only really using it for tracking, or is my fitness pal sufficient?

(excuse grammar and spelling... On my phone...)

Why dont you join my fitness pal and see how you go? From there join a weightloss group - either here on EB, MFP or with friends. I personally have found the EB weightloss groups very supportive.

Good luck with the weight loss, you sound very positive original.gif

I have the Iphone app for Weight Watchers and I find it works brilliantly. There were some hiccups but they have been sorted now. Pretty sure the andriod phone has an update coming. I track online mostly anyway from my computer. If you do WW online you really want it for the program and the tracking aspect rather than just the tracking. If you are going to do your own thing and not worry about counting points etc then I would just do fitness pal.

Yes MFP is free and they're nearly the same but there is no accountability (except to yourself) with just the MFP app. I used it on and off for months and never really lost much weight.

I've just joined WW and have the app and am going to meetings and I feel really good about it. I know that I have to weigh in each Friday and that makes a massive difference keeping me on track.

I would join WW for a few months, loose some weight, get back on track and then when you're ready move back to MFP to keep your calories under control.

I much prefer, and have been most successful using, MFP. It gives you back the control, no false guilt over weigh-ins and points, and lots of positive, healthy people as well as people looking to lose weight.

Learning how to count calories is a much better skill than counting 'points' IMO.

I think WW is great if you are going to meetings etc but for online only you might as well just do MFP. I have done both and for android the MFP app is waaaaaaaaaaaay better than the WW app which doesn't even work half the time rolleyes.gif

I've done both and WW works much much better for me.

It was just a psychological thing - with WW fruits and most veg are 'free' so for my mind it helps - I don't want to feel 'bad' about eating veg - and if I am hungry I have a safe and healthy place to go. With MFP I ended up feeling bad about everything I ate!!

Also WW does (to some extent) reconise that all calories are not alike - you can have two identically calorific foods and WW will assign less points to a food that has more nutritional value and more to the one that doesn't. To me this is a healthy way of being. It helps me realise that a cob of corn really is 'better' than a freddo frog!!!

ETA also - for me - paying for something motivates me more than something that is just free!

Have you thought about Calorie King? That is what i'm doing at the moment and i'm loving it. I've tried WW before and found it to be great as well, but couldn't afford it any longer. CK is free. I don't know much about My Fitness Pal, so can't comment on that one.
