Has anyone successfully shrunk denim?

I have a pair of denim shorts that are the perfect shape but have lost weight and they now keep falling down. I have searched for another pair but nothing else looks good/wrong shape, length ect. I have tried hot cycle on the dryer but they fit for 30 mins then stretch out again. Any tips?

You could have them taken in? Not sure you'll be able to get them to shrink permanently.

You can't shrink denim - that is one of it's advantages! You need to take them in at the side seams (if they have side seams?) or buy a belt.

I hope not to grow my ass back! I'm sure I accidentally shrunk a pair of jeans once... Maybe it was my obsession with Doritos and big m iced coffee instead! Hate belts, but that looks like my only option right now

I have done it once - no idea how or why it happened, but I was so annoyed! They were awesome!

Have you washed them in really hot water? That's the only other thing I'd try but I don't like your chances of it being permanent.

Don't think it is possible permanently. They shrink in the wash but stretch as soon as they are on again. I second having them taken in.

I thought it was putting them into boiling water would do it. The old coppers were not too friendly when it came to washing jeans. So using the same principal boil them for a bit in a pot on the stove should do it.

Looks like I'm cooking denim soup tonight! If that doesn't work I might check at the alteration shop next time I'm in the area. Thanks ladies!
