I'm going from having one child at school to having 3 this year. I've noticed a fair few of dd's exercise books from last year still have a lot of blank pages. Has anyone out there ever recycled them before? Obviously ripping out the used pages first. It's just so much waste & at least dd will have her books covered as I don't see myself covering my boys books, there's just too many of the things!!

Not for school. I simply keep them at home, and they get used up here. Although last year, most of the books came home pretty full, so not a lot of empty space.

But we also get book packs from the school, which include all the specific books they need for the year.

I have before, but, literally when only a couple of pages have been used - I have also had full exercise books returned as well, and just relabelled them.

My mum used to as well, so it is not a new thing.

I also reuse pens and other stationery, if they work.

Why buy more stuff if you already have it? Why buy a new ruler every year etc?

Only if it's a few pages and the book looks new. Otherwise I pull the used pages out (if it's not too many) and keep it for home. But I tend not to cover exercise books. My kids aren't too rough on their books.

I also reuse stationary and pens and pencils too. But once again only if they look fairly new. The old ones can always be used as spares later in the year when there's not as much notice paid to whether kids have new stuff or not.

We use them for note paper. We also used them for my SS to practice writing because his handwriting was shocking. I also write his spelling words in them because the spelling list is in the homework book which is where he had write the words when I read them out. They can also be used for shopping lists.
