I got diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum last week and was given maxolon to treat it but ended up back at the doctors today as it really wasnt helping. I started feeling nauseous afew weeks ago but eating frequently kept it at bay. I've barely been able to keep anything down not even fluids since saturday last week. I ended up dehydrated and on the verge of hospitalization. I havent been able to work nor function really and it was just getting worse by the day. Thankfully the doc was able to prescribe something called zofran to help, he could only prescribe 4 tablets and at $30 for the box i really hope they help. Somehow im always feeling hungry yet nauseous but the notion of eating makes me feel even worse and when i give in and eat it just comes straight back up again. Im starting to feel for princess kate. At first i thought to myself, its just morning sickness why does she need to be in hospital but i now understand why. This is hell. I havent been able to do anything and with a 4 yr old to look after i just felt so guilty that she isnt getting the attention she deserves. I cant cook dinner so shes been living off take away and canned food, i can barely get through her bed time routine without constant trips to the loo to throw up. Im constantly dry reaching if i dont have anything in my tummy and the only time ive gotten a break from it is when im asleep. Is anyone else suffering the same? I feel like i should just suck it up and get on with life seeing as it was my choice to fall pregnant but i honestly dont have the energy to do anything at the moment and can barely move away from the toilet...

I'm not pregnant now (so don't really belong in this forum!) but I had HG when I was pregnant and I pretty much lived on Zofran. Yes, it costs a fortune but it was the only thing that made life partly bearable (and I had a toddler to look after as well at the time). Make sure you keep your receipts as depending on other medical expenses you incur in the financial year, you may be able to claim some of it back when you do your tax return (and PHI if you have that).

No other advice really other than much empathy - HG sucks!

The HelpHer.org website is terrific. Read over it, direct your loved ones to it and ask them for all of the help they can muster until the HG passes. You can't do this alone.

I am a survivor. Sweetie, it's a hard road, you just have to do what you can to survive it and don't worry about your DD, you are growing her a sibling and she will cope with you being sick, kids are very adaptable. Accept as much help as is on offer, don't tolerate ignorance of your condition, demand help and support.

Do you have someone who can advocate for you? Someone who can come along to medical appointments and help to organize others to help you? You will benefit from someone like this... Made all the difference for me. Sometimes doctors would brush me off but my support person would say NO she needs SERIOUS help.

I know this can be scary and overwhelming. You are not alone. You will get through this.

Thanks ladies, glad to know im not alone. And thanks for the links Pooks, ill hav a look. Im from SA. Thankfully DH works from home most days and has been of great help, and his mum lives afew streets from us so can have DD on short notice. I can remember being sick with DD but not this sick. I was hospitalized with her in early pregnancy for vomiting but that was coz of a kidney infection so once that cleared up the m/s was bearable with maxolon. I wasnt sick with my last pregnancy, that ended in mc in june and july last year (it was twins) so i wasn't prepared for this. I think my best bet is to just rest, take the week off work and hope this zofran helps.

Absolutely, rest up. It's important that the people around you understand what is happening for you and it's great you have that support. Your DD is going to be FINE. I hope that the zofran helps and that you recover speedily. Just be prepared that it may take longer than we would all hope, but there is no way of knowing except taking it day by day. All my best!

Why did he only prescribe 4? that is rubbish go back and ask for a few repeat prescription for 10 packs. Trust me you will need them. Zofran should help.

Oh chloesmum I really hope you feel better soon, morning sickness sucks at the best of times but you deserve a medal!!... Really have my fingers crossed that the drugs work for you
