| If a cat doesn't like you, then what's wrong with you? | |

Over the last few months my DS periodically will seem to space out and start shaking his head. It only lasts maybe 30 seconds max.
Its not something he does everyday and it just seems to be random, like yesterday he did it while at the park. I am going to take him to the doctor next week, but does anyone else's child do this? Is it the start of some sort of problem? |

Could be lots of things OP, maybe an earache, or he is trying to clear his ears, or it could just be a habit he has picked up.
Definitely get it checked out, but maybe start to notice what he was doing directly beforehand. The reason I say this is because I worked with a little boy who had epilepsy and he would have a mini seizure (complex partial) every time he was wiped during nappy change. That's what triggered the parents to investigate and lead to the dx. Its probably nothing serious, but noticing patterns is important for doctors to be able to narrow down a cause, or to rule things out. |

Thank Eyesabove, the last two time he has been mid play. I was worried it might be a seizure, he is usually unresponsive whilst shaking his head but it doesn't last long.
Will definitely take him to the doctors. |

For awhile my DS would do something equally strange that I thought was some kind of mini-seizure.
I took some video and played it for my gp because it was much easier than trying to describe what was going on. My gp really appreciated it as it made things much easier for him to work out what was going on. It turned out to just be a phase that DS was going through and he grew out of it. He's 19mths old now. I hope everything works out well for you and your son. This post has been edited by geckogirl: 06/01/2013, 11:55 AM |

You are doing the right thing taking him to a GP.
Is there a history of epilepsy in your family? |

Now happy healthy 7yo. Also video of episodes are good. |

Video is an excellent idea, even with a dx of epilepsy they want to see video, so they can see what the seizures look like
Good luck OP, hopefully it's just a quirky thing he does. |
