Hi,

We are expecting DD2 in a few months and have narrowed our name choices down to two! DD1 is called Emma. Our picks are:

1. Madeleine

2. Mya

Middle name will be Rose. A few questions biggrin.gif !

Firstly, how would you pronounce both names?? We like Mad-ah-lyn for Madeleine and My-uh for Mya. I don't want people to call her Mad-ah-line or May-a.

Secondly, which spelling to you think is best- Madeleine or Madeline to get our preferred pronouncation?

Lastly, which name goes best with Emma?

Sorry for all the questions! Thank you for your help in advance.

1) I would pronounce them Mad-ah-lyn and My-uh

2) I would spell it Madelyn (sorry probably doesn't help)

3) I would chose Madelyn Rose to go with Emma beacuse im not that fussy with the name Mya.

1. Madeleine should get you the pronunciation you want.

2. Mya would give you the pronunciation you want.

3. I think Mya goes better with Emma. However I would spell it Myah. Same pronunciation but I think it needs to look longer (and with Emma).

4. Alternatives:

Myra

Myla

I definitely prefer Mya to Madeleine, whichever way either of them are spelled.

Although, while I do see the pronunciation issues, I much prefer Maya to Mya.

1. I would have expected the pronunciations you are after

2. Madeleine

3. Madeleine

ETA With Mya I like the look of Maya better, but it would probably cause more confusion over pronunciation. Mya or Myah would be pronounced the way you want.

I much prefer Mya to Madeleine.

ETA: I misread and thought the MN was Emma, not your DD1's name - so either Mya or Madeleine would sound fine with the MN Rose.

I have an Emma and I think Madeline sounds better (and the way I've spelt it too).

Sorry I'm not a fan of Mya.

Emma and Madeline are keeping in theme with the classical girls name IMO.

I don't think Mya (as you want it pronounced) sounds good with Emma. Emma and Mya- a little bit of a mouthful. It doesn't roll off the tongue as much as Emma and Madeleine. She may also get it shortened as a nn to "Maddie" too. However, I would be careful with the spelling. I would also pronounce Madeleine as Mad-ah-line (as in the kids tv show). So if you want the 'lyn' pronounciation then go for that spelling- like Madelyn.

As for Mya- I would pronounce that as My-ah. The May-a pronounciation would be as it sounds- Maya.

Madeleine ( I like this spelling the best) is a beautiful name and goes well with Emma. Mya clashes with Emma, nms.

I know 3 Madeleine's . One is Madalyn and one is Madeline and one is Madeleine. The are all pronounced Mad-ah-lyn.
