My 9 year olds a little annoyed that I keep sewing pretty skirts, and girly things for my daughter.
Ive made him plenty of shorts in the past, bit sick of that.

Any ideas or links ?? Ive spent ages on google and cant find much.

A set of overalls or a nice jacket? Possibly a stuffed toy?

My MIL is always sewing up sets of overalls for my boys, she's also done some nice jackets for them. I've seen some sewing patterns in the books at Spotlight for toys that a boy might like too.

A cool jacket.

I make my nephews a funky tshirt every Christmas with help from photoshop and iron on transfer printer paper. If you iron on to white cotton and then sew that to the tshirt material you less likely to get cracking of the image too.

Not overalls, not at 9 - he'd be humiliated by his mates and they wouldn't get worn.

hehehe :-) thanks for the suggestions, but yes, hes very conscious of what he wears at the moment. After he turned 9, it was like overnight he started getting more concerned of his appearance.

Soft toys, and tshirts. Good ideas. Im a bit scared of sewing in tshirt material hahaha.

Has he got any suggestions?

Hooded top

PJs

Cushion / pillow cover

Make a soft toy out of one his drawings (I know a softie seems a little "young", but they can get a kick out of their artwork coming to life)

Flag / throw in his footy team's colours (if he has a team)

Art folio - bag with pockets for markers, paper, etc.

Fort kit - http://megandandymade.blogspot.com.au/2011...o-fort-kit.html

Have fun!

I have made my son a few pairs of the oliver&s cargos
http://oliverands.com/oliver-and-s-patterns/OLV-OS035FC.html
I have adjusted the pattern to turn them into shorts too, Lined them in cotton jersey for extra warmth in winter they are great too... the raglan the pattern comes with is really nice as well...

Sewing with knit remember to use a ball point needle it makes a huge difference and I really like the three step zig zag, but play around and find one that works for you.

Oh and country mels suggestion is a good one I think we must make 50 tshirts a year this way.

Oh and started using this technique recently and it is great

laptop/messenger bag/satchel (like this). There are plenty of patterns available on the web (free and not so free). I have done a few of these for boys, always gone down a treat.

bucket hat

cargo pants (I did these and they are quick and easy)

jacket or fleece jumper (like a hoodie)

cool vest (I like this)

groovy quilt (or a TV lap blanket)

appliqued t-shirts are always a hit

flannel/winter PJs

there is also the Sewing For Boys book too

have fun!
