Hi, really quick Q about BLW - how soft do you make the vegies?
I steamed some apple the other day and DD broke a chunk off in her mouth, but it didn't go to 'mush' as she did it, and she gagged/ choked a litte...
So can anyone offer a tip/description of how soft I should make it?

Firm enough to hold, but soft enough to chew. I would not expect it to turn to mush.
Gagging is ok (its how they learn how to handle it in their mouth) - choking is not.

Just wanted to add that gagging is noisy whereas choking is silent. A big gagging episode can sometimes even result in a giant vomit but it's a good thing - the gag reflex prevents dangerous choking!

In the early days it's hard getting the balance right between firm enough to hold and soft enough to eat but they learn pretty quickly. Things like avocado sticks etc that can't be made harder are best served spread onto cruskits or similar I find, and I even serve mashed steamed veg this way sometimes. Helps get it in.
