Hi All

I need some ideas

My grandparents left me $1000 dollars to spend on my daughter at a jeweller.

I am wanting to get my daughter something for when she is 18. Can I please get some suggestions and links as to what I should get?

It will be hand made at Vangelic in Woden.

I don't wear jewellery myself, so I have no idea.

Thanks in Advance

Soft kitty, warm kitty, little ball of fur.
I got a lovely rose gold ring when I was 16 and a matching chain when I was 18. You could add birthstones to the designs to make them more personalised.

I would put the amount in a term deposit and let it mature and when your DD reaches 18 how about springing a jewellery shop, then she may have a particular style that she likes by then and if she is allergic to any metals then you can avoid them.

You could always look at purchasing gemstones, and having them put into a deposit box sort of thing, along with some of the money, then when she is older she could assist with the design with the gems you have purchased?

Yeah, I'd do the term deposit thing, and wait til she's 18. I don't know a huge amount about custom made jewellery, but I'm thinking that $1000 isn't going to go all that far, especially for a really nice piece? At least with a term deposit, you can grow that amount over the next 12 or so years.

I am another that would term deposit it... you could have her help design a piece as a coming of age thing together, im sure it would be special to her that way.

Another one for a term deposit here. $1,000 won't go far for custom jewellery.

Something you buy now may be well out of fashion by then. At least you can get something made when you know her taste in jewellery then. I have some hideous yellow gold items (non expensive) given to me as 'keepsakes' as a child. I never wear them as they are not what I like at all.

I dont have the option to put the money in a term deposit, the money is at the Jewellers, this is what my grandparents wanted, and will accept there wishes.

Anyone else got any other ideas besides term deposit?

EDIT: I didn't realize this was for ACT specifically, sorry. But all I said was If I was buying now though I'd stick to very timeless pieces - a string of pearls, diamond or pearl stud earrings, not really very "custom" type custom, honestly. She hasn't got a specific style or favourite stones yet really? But I'm bitter because I turned out to be allergic to a lot of metals I didn't realize when I was little.
