DS turned 3 recently, but unfortunately developmentally he's just 2. I started toilet training DS about 4 months ago and today I can say with a lot of pride that my son now has not had any wee accidents during the day for nearly a week!!! Yes, I still need to remind him some times when he's too preoccupied with something, but still! Poo's are a completely different thing and his sensory processing disorder can make the poo training rather long and complicated, but we're just going with the flow for now. I wont start night training until he's mastered the poo's first either. We saw his pead 4 weeks ago and mentioned the poo's being a problem right now. He reckoned that due to DS's delays and SPD, I should give up on toilet training him and put him back into nappies until he's at least 4yo. He said he doubted DS would be fully toilet trained before he turned 5 However, I told him I had no intentions of putting him back into nappies as that would surely be (in my opinion) a big step backwards?

Congrats to your son! My daughter didn't train until almost age 4, so I can appreciate what a big deal this must be for you. On the poo note, my NT son has encopresis. I prefer not to have him in nappies (he's 5), so we buy a lot of white undies and wash/bleach them.

I have been researching this a bit lately. Funny you should mention it. DS's father had this and did not grow out of it as he got older. His was involuntarily. They tried every suppository and stool softener they could think of and eventually they all just stopped working. At the age of 40 he was waiting for a colostomy as he was fed up with the embarrassment. I thought the colostomy was taking things a bit too far, but it was his choice and not mine. May I ask if your son's encopresis is (in)voluntary? If it is constipation related, can you fix it with stool softeners?
