I feel so awful.

Our cats are boarded atm as we are moving interstate, and the week or so leading up to them going in I had noticed Pebbles was sleeping under the bed alot but we thought it was just because we had visitors as it was christmas and she is a timid cat. I got a call yesterday afternoon from the boarding kennel (its attached to a vet surgery) and he said she hadnt been eating since she had been there and when they examined her they could feel her spine and ribs but her stomach was bloated. They have taken some bloods but suspect her kidneys or liver

I feel so awful, I should have noticed but we just had our baby, are moving and have been dealing with solicitors about buying a house and selling our house and its so hard to tell if one cat isnt eating when you have four indoor cats. She has always been a podgy cat and I thought the stomach was just fat, but seriously how could I miss it.

I hope nothing is seriously wrong with her, I should know by lunchtime but man I feel guilty. :'( Has anyone had a cat with similar symptoms, bloated stomach and not eating and lethargic, she is weeing thankfully.

Hi DoC, poor Pebbles. I haven't, but hope its nothing too serious.

Cats are really good at hiding stuff. I missed Lao's ingrown claws, possibly for months. I still haven't stopped kicking myself for that. She must have been in so much pain.

I have heard of fluffies getting furballs that sort of block things - they can't really eat and it wont vomit out IYKWIM, but water is no problem.

And if its kidneys or liver, well hopefully you've gotten to it while its still treatable. My girl has had kidney issues since she was 8yo - she's now 20yo, thanks to specialist diets.

I know what you mean about it being hard with 4 cats! I know I worry about if I can tell if one of them isn't pooing or is weeing excessively etc. Esp considering I am at work during the day!

I'm always going nuts trying to figure out who is doing all the eating around here, and I only have two cats. I'm watching them more now because one keeps expanding (he's going to develop his own gravity soon) but its really hard to know, especially if one is very quiet and bloated.

Well its not very good news I am afraid.

They got the results back and she has excessively high platelet count. Which the vet is thinking is either a tumour or leukemia

He did an xray and couldnt see a mass, but saw alot fluid and when he aspirated he said it looked like urine and a dipstick test of it showed high nitrates. He is sending the fluid away and asking the lab to test the blood for leukemia and I should know tomorrow morning.

He has put her on a drip because it also showed she was dehydrated. If it is leukemia though she will have to be sent to rainbow bridge as she isnt eating anymore

I am absolutely devestated.

Oh no, that's awful news. Don't feel guilty though - it's so hard to tell with cats, especially when you have 4 plus all the other stuff you've had going on. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that you get some good news tomorrow.
