They will be in checked baggage
Maybe in large items??/

do you put them in a bag / clear plactic cover ???

Any ideas please???

They will be unpacked at the other end to go into a hire car at the airport.

I've brought one from overseas in an original purchase box. It came through as an oversized baggage. I just checked it in. It JUST fit through their chute! I've noticed other seats on the conveyor belt when I was picking my box up, they were just as is, no cover, nothing. Who knows if they had been banged up en route?

I think you should ring the airline. Qantas usually allow two baby items, pram and a car seat, as items extra to the checked luggage. But check with them.

Personally, given how luggage is treated, I would just hire a child restraint from the car rental place.

Qantas have enormous clear plastic bags. Just ask at check-in.

ETA we've rented a car and carseats through Budget in Melbourne and they were fine. I would do that by preference.

When I've flown internation they've always provided me a free plastic cover for prams when asked, when I flew domestic recently they charged (maybe $5 or so? can't remember). This may vary on airline.

You don't have to have a plastic cover. I've never bothered wrapping up carseats and each time I got it back in perfect condition.

We have the seats already and the cost for hiring them with the car is about $300. They are free to go in the luggage allowance with the kids tickets as they are both under 12 yrs and will be taking a stroller too.

Will ring Qantas and ask about the bags.

Thanks - I thought I'd have to go to Spotlight and get some strong material and whip up some huge bags!!!

Clear plastic would be much better and they will be able to be seen.

They were purchased today and come in a plastic bag ( very flimsy) so no box to put it in.

Also didn't wrap them and all was fine. It felt a bit weird the first time we did it, but now I don't even look twice. I figure those baggage handlers have way less skills at trashing stuff than my little boy!

I went with qantas, and departing they put it in a bag, as it looked like it might rain, but going back they didn't. Free of charge and a domestic flight.

You can buy huge orange plastic bags from the supermarket. We used these to keep the carseat dry after it appears the capsule was left in the rain during a stopover in Brisbane. You dont want a wet carseat. The bag keeps all the straps together. Sometimes the airport does not have the bags available.

this was also the reason why we generally take our own. For more than a weekend, it's hideously expensive to hire 2 car seats. Plus, DD1 can only fit in a Hi-Liner now (very tall) and most car hire places just use standard booster seats, so they don't fit well. Car seats have always been free for us.
