After some suggestions/ experiences, where do you love to go for a short break?
We booked a Gold Coast holiday last year that we had to cancel, and now have credit with Virgin Blue to use this year, although the amount in credit was minus some penalties of course which equaled $800 down the drain We don't have the money to make up the difference now so are looking at just a 2 or 3 night stay for a quick break. We have 2 children that are 3 and 6 years old and would be flying out of Melbourne. We have $1600 to use which needs to cover flights and accommodation, and possibly some car hire. We need to book before July so there is plenty of time but we don't have a lot of spending money so we are looking for more of a relaxing trip than one full of experiences. So where would you go? |

Tasmania
I would either head to the Port Arthur area for a few days, or go to Bruny Island. Bruny Island has seal and penguin watching, plus a beautiiful cheese factory and Oyster farm. |

Maybe Sydney? You could pick up really cheap flights on sale and if you stayed in the city you probably wouldn't need a car unless you wanted to explore a bit more. Depends on your idea of relaxing though. For me staying in a hotel in a central location with attractions, good food etc in walking/ferry distance is perfect but if you hate the city then maybe not!
Tasmania would also be a lovely option, but flights, car hire etc would probably add up a bit |

Wow - just looked at Tasmania in March and the package was so cheap, that's definitely on the short list. Will do some research about Bruny Island, thanks for that.

Yep that's me too! DH not so much though, he prefers driving to public transport but as our break will be short I don't want to waste time worrying about directions and all that, we have never been to Sydney and I confess to not knowing much about it at all so I will check out that also, thanks. |
