Hi, wondering if there are any Fiji travel "experts" out there......have been online - several sites, including the resort's website, and it appears that the entire resort is booked out already (!) for the jun/ July holidays...? Does this sound right? Jeez you gotta get in quick!
Any other suggestions? We have done Jean Michel Cousteau which we loved, I just don't really want to do the second flight to the island again...with a 1 yr old. Castaway seemed perfect is it appears there is only a short-ish boat ride from Denarau (sp?). Has anyone been to the Shangri-la resort .at Yanuca Island? Would you recommend it? TIA! Sounds about right, we went to Malolo that time last year and only just got in. The friends we traveled with also stayed at Castaway on the same trip and said they preferred Malolo - we certainly loved Malolo for little kids who are too young for the majority of water sports, great kids club, babysitters and the beach bar does happy hour cocktails at the same time as the kids meals are served

Often need to book 12 months in advance for Castaway. We booked in July 2012 for August 2013 and it was already heavily booked. Haven't been there before, so hopefully it lives up to it's reputation. Noticed that the hotels in Denarau are starting to get booked out for July/August this year already.

Yes, the damage is quite extensive to Castaway.

Hi, we stayed at shangri la twice and loved it, kids had a fab time at kids club and the buffet is to die for. Staff are lovely and couldn't do enough for you. We stayed on the lagoon side in front of pool. Highly recommend it

We booked for July this year, in September last year and missed out on a Beach Bure, we have booked an Island bure.
So it doesn't surprise me that it is booked out. Seems crazy doesn't it??? |

I don't blame you for not wanting to go on that flight scared the heck out of me. We state at an adults only place on the island but mentioned we would stay where you did if we went back with kids. I also would look into flying in about an hour away to the other airport and drive in. I know this is what the people who were getting married at our hotel did because they couldn't all fit on the tiny plane. I am under the impression it is a bigger plane as well. |

You can try Vomo Island, very nice and much smaller than Castaway with more personal service. It has been my favourite place so far, Intercon was also really nice but not an Island.
We got a helicopter direct from Nadi airport, less than 30 mins. YOu can also go by seaplane or speed boat. It only had minor damage from the recent cyclone and is back to normal now. |
